Food for Thought: You don’t have to over-complicate a healthy lifestyle.

So many women spend hours of time researching the best “diet”, workout plan, gym, etc. STOP. If you can incorporate these 5 principles into your day-to-day life, you will automatically start to feel better and live better. 

  1. Drink more water! YEP. I sound like a broken record. Your brain is 80% water. Just a 2% decrease in needed intake can lead to impairment of tasks requiring attention, motor coordination, and executive functioning! I’d say it’s worth filling up on H20! 

    1. Grab at least a 32 oz. water bottle and determine how much you need each day. (half your body weight in ounces. You can do the math!)

    2. Determine how many times you need to fill that bottle up daily! 

    3. Set time goals for yourself. I.e. I will have one 32 ounce bottle completed by 10 am. 

    4. Make sure to add more water if adding significantly more caffeine. I ensure I have at least 16+ ounces of water before any caffeine in the morning. Then I finish my 32 ounces before any more caffeine or sparkling water. 

    5. If you don’t love plain water, add in fresh berries, cucumbers, or lemon to add flavor!

  2. Move your body daily! Notice I didn’t say workout. Just MOVE. Go on long walks on the days you can’t get to the gym. In fact, PLAN one longer walk weekly. Get outside for this. It’s the perfect season to create a routine. 

  3. Get outside! Natural light and being in nature not only helps to reduce stress, but helps melatonin production. If you can get early light, you will find it easier to sleep better (yes there are many factors to good sleep, but this is one that is overlooked). Try walking around outside with your water, barefoot… first thing in the morning. BOOM! You just hit all 3 so far. 

  4. PLAY - do activities that bring you joy! Schedule it, along with breaks in your day, to help you de-stress and get those happy hormones moving through your body. You’ll be more productive, less stressed, less irritable and honestly have a better quality of life. 

    1. I struggled with this one. I am a work-hard kind of gal! As a small business owner and entrepreneur, it was hard for me to set boundaries for when I worked. Now:

      1.  I schedule 5-15 minute breaks each HOUR. 

      2. I theme my days for my main tasks, leaving lots of room for play and leftover work. 

      3. I am more productive, leaving more time for the things and people I love…as well as creativity.

  5. Eat more whole foods! Start to notice how much food you eat comes from a bag, box, or tub. Is there a swap you can make that comes from nature? Even one meal a day making some switches can REALLY change things up. 

    1. Pay attention to my blog (yep, right here!)- it's free coaching. I post recipes weekly, as well as offer mindset shifts, 5-minute actions, practical solutions, and have plans to start sharing more about meal prep.
